What a great show!
With 90 cats, excellent judges and a
friendly, sociable group of exhibitors, ACTCat's 7th Championship Show proved to
be a great success.
The show weekend kicked off with a meet and
greet at a Chinese restaurant in Dickson on the Friday night. ACTCat
members were joined by a good cross section of interstate visitors including
John Smithson, Dick and Sue Wye, Ann Elphick, Christine Tracey, Francis
Kurschildgen, Brian "Poppa Smurf" Edwards, David Richardson and Christine
Brelsford.
Dick, true to form, had managed to hide a
couple of bottles of his home-brewed "Baileys" in his luggage. Reports
indicate tastings were conducted in motel rooms around the national capital that
night. It was a fine drop, best of all you could still detect it on your
palate over 12 hours later.
Day 1 of the show commenced at Noon on the
Saturday. Highlights included a visit from WIN-TV to film a segment on the
Junior Handlers. Emma Tully performed brilliantly under the bright
lights.
On completion of the day's judging the
majority of exhibitors attended the Trivia Night, held at the Harmonie German
Club. A great evening was had by all. Special thanks goes to Maureen
Tully and her family for orchestrating this popular event. Congratulations
to "The Bright Sparks" on their well deserved win.
9am saw the start of Day 2 with judging
completed by around 3pm. Prizes were awarded and the ubiquitous raffles
drawn. A very fortunate visitor to the show scooped the pool by winning
the first prize of "Meet A Cheetah" at the National Zoo and Aquarium, generously
donated by Kosmos Kats (Lee and Louise).
The number of visitors to the show was very
pleasing. Several media outlets were generous enough to provide column
inches or air time which assisted in promoting the event. A special thank
you to FM104.7 (Cam), MiX 106.3 (Erin), 666 ABC Canberra (David), WIN-TV and The
Canberra Times.
A huge thankyou to our sponsors (without whom
these events would never happen) and last but not least the members of ACTCat
and Waratah who worked very hard behind the scenes to bring the show together.
Come down and visit us for the next show in
October! Canberra is beautiful at that time of year (then again, isn't it
always!)
