The Retirement Expo was originally going to just
be a display of a small number of cats to promote Waratah and ACTCat.
At short notice though we made the decision to
try something completely different and change it into a show where people could
just turn up each day with as many cats as they liked and enter on the spot.
The Expo went for three days and entrants
could choose the day/s they wished to enter. Each day became a mini cat show
with 2 rings and 2 judges. The judges presented their best exhibits at the end
of each day.
Not only did the cats and kittens entered win
the usual prizes (litter, food and other pet products), they also won cash
prizes. Half of the money collected from the entrants in each ring went back
into a prize pool to be split amongst the top cats in each group.
As always we also held a raffle with some
great prizes such as a DVD player, cat climbing tree, large cat bed, toys, etc.
The idea was very successful. The atmosphere
was fun and informal and everyone who came along had a relaxed time. It went so
well that we will be doing it again in November 2006.
