Bobkatz Cattery
Important Points for Purchasing a Pedigree Kitten.
- Ask your local vet for names of local breeders.
- Look on the internet for breeders listings.
- Always phone and speak to the breeder. (they usually prefer this, and it will help you sense what the breeder may be like)
- Ask if they are a registered breeder and who with , if not why not?
- Does the breeder seem approachable and willing to answer questions.
- Try to visit the cattery . Is the breeder willing to show you around and maybe see mum and or dad.
- Look at different breeds .To compare too what you think you are looking for!
- Don’t buy the first kitten you see. It’s a big choice, a life long one.
- Don’t but a kitten because you feel sorry for it! And want to give it a better home. If you are unhappy with the cattery report them to your or their vet, their registering body or the RSPCA.
- Does it come wormed, vaccinated, micro-chipped, registered etc.
- Take your time when picking your pet, sit and see how they interact with you.
- If not local, is the breeder easy to talk to and willing to send you photo’s and updates on the progress of your new pet.
- If you find a breeder you are comfortable with, even if not local, stick with them and be patient, they may have a waiting list.
- DON’T VISIT MORE THAN ONE CATTERY IN A DAY AS YOU MAY BE UN-KNOWINGLY SPREADING DISEASE.
- Cheaper is not always best, neither is most expensive. A low price usually means you could be buying trouble. But most expensive does not guarantee the best.
The important thing is to have a good relationship with the breeder. A good breeder will charge a fair price. For most breeders it’s a hobby and done for love not money . Depending on the
rarity of the breed and the costs involved in raising a litter , transport etc, will largely determine what you pay for a kitten.
