About Siamese and Orientals
In days gone by, people had the impression of the Siamese cat as a stand- offish , aloof type of cat. Some people even believed that they were nasty , or would smother children etc. This is very untrue.
Just like with puppies , the first ten or so weeks of a kittens life , how they are handled and socialised will determine how they behave for the rest of their life.In the old days some breeders did not handle their kittens very much, or they were raised out in the cattery. Consequently , kittens were timid and took a long time to adjust to a new home. And would very often attach themselves to one person in the family. So they got a bit of a reputation as being solitary and aloof.
Siamese and Oriental, like all the so called “Asian” breeds need to be socialised and well handled as kittens. Most, are after all going to be some ones pet. So thankfully most modern breeders , as we do, house raise their kittens “under foot” so to speak. And this has meant that we have a much more relaxed well adjusted kitten . Siamese are smart, talkative cats, that like you to talk back to them. And love you to play with them. They can sometimes be a one person cat , in that they may decide that one member of the family is their person, but they will still share there affection with every one.
