WNCA also maintains a listing to help breeders place ex-breeding cats who are ready for retirement and cats that are rescued by the various breed associations or by WNCA members. Please contact the person/s listed next to each cat's description and although most breed associations have a Distress Fund to cover the costs of rescuing cats it is still an expensive operation, especially if desexing, vaccinations and checks by vets are involved. Therefore we ask that you make a donation to cover these costs and suggest that $100 is a reasonable amount. Most breeders will also ask a similar small amount for ex-breeding cats to cover the cost of desexing etc. The reason that ex-breeding cats become available is because not all breeders can desex their cats and make a home for them in their houses or gardens. Often the only option is to keep them in cages or locked into parts of the house away from the queens and their kittens. We don't see this a good reward for the work they have done in supplying kittens for people's enjoyment and although it is hard to give away a lovely queen or a gorgeous stud it is better for the cat to go to a loving home where they are free to roam around and be with their human family. It is doubly difficult when you are in a "breeding program" which is either breeding up a new breed or introducing a new lines, colours or patterns into an existing breed. There you only need the queen/stud for a couple of years and what better reward for their work than to find them a home where they can be loved and spoilt for themselves. Many people ask us
if we have adult cats to place in homes as often a kitten is not suitable for
their lifestyle or they do not want to go through all the stages of kittenhood
before they can enjoy their companion cat. For older people it
is often better to have an older cat which will not get underfoot as kittens so
often do - with disastrous consequences and sometimes broken bones. Older cats
will fit into a household almost as readily as kittens and will be as
affectionate and loving to their new humans as you would expect from kittens.
If that is for you then we have the cats for you.
Below is an excellent place which ALWAYS have older cats that they are trying to find loving homes for. The Cat Protection Society of NSW has adoption centres in Sydney as per their webpage. They will always have older Domestic (and sometimes pedigreed) cats that they have rescued to place. All their cats come vet-checked, vaccinated and desexed. |
